AULRE Annual Conference 2022, Hosted by Newman University, Birmingham

Conference theme:

“Religious education and social justice in a time of climate crisis”

Association of University Lecturers in Religious Education (AULRE) is delighted to announce its 2022 conference, to be held face to face at the Newman University Birmingham on 12th and 13th May 2022.

That the world is experiencing a time of crisis is without doubt. The conference theme has been chosen to open discussions around religious education and religion in education’s role in and response to issues surrounding social justice. 

“Religious education and social justice in a time of climate crisis”

The conference intends to bring together those with an interest in religious education (both directly and indirectly) from all parts of the UK and beyond. We anticipate therefore, receiving papers from researchers working in a number of areas including teacher educators and teacher practitioners. We also anticipate those working from aligned fields such as Sociology, Theology, Religious Studies, Education Studies, Psychology, Philosophy as well as from within Childhood and Youth studies will also be interested in presenting papers and attending.

Papers will address the conference theme specifically or more generally. They may also focus on one of the following areas:

  • Intersection between theology & religious education & social justice
  • Inclusive religious education 
  • Knowledge and social justice
  • Pedagogical proposals for religious education in relation to social justice
  • Religious education, science education and the climate crisis
  • Education theory in relation to religion in education and climate justice
